Vice President Cevdet Yılmaz, in a statement at the natural gas flare lighting ceremony he attended in the Karlıova district of Bingöl, said, ‘Our fight against terrorism will continue resolutely and determinedly.’
Vice President Cevdet Yılmaz participated in the natural gas flare lighting ceremony in Karlıova district. Before the lighting of the flare, Yılmaz stated that they condemned terrorism once again. He emphasized that no matter what they do, they will continue on their path by working harder and elevating their brotherhood, unity, and togetherness. Yılmaz stated that they would continue to fight against terrorism in a resolute and determined manner. Reminding that they made a promise here last March, Yılmaz said, ‘Thank God we have not been embarrassed, our promise has not gone unfulfilled. The essence of our political understanding is this: not to say what we cannot do, but to do what we say. We feel great happiness today because the promise we made has been fulfilled. With the arrival of natural gas in our district, a great relief and comfort has been provided not only in our homes but also in our future. This flare is not only a symbol of heating but also a symbol of our confidence in the future and the value we place on the economy and the environment. We are always striving to serve every district, every town, and every village without making any distinction.’
‘Turkey provides the cheapest electricity and natural gas to households among European countries.’
Yılmaz stated that to enable citizens to use electricity and natural gas at lower prices, the government has implemented a subsidy of up to 60% for residential subscriptions, saying, ‘The bill paid by the citizen is actually a bill that the state subsidizes and covers by 60%. Thus, in the first six months of 2024, Turkey is the country that provides the cheapest electricity and natural gas to households among European countries. Just for this, the amount we put in our budget for electricity and natural gas is 472 billion Turkish lira. If we did not cover this with the budget, our citizens would have to pay this through their bills. Thank God we have now reached a point where we can produce our own natural gas. This is very important; in 2020, we made the largest natural gas discovery in our history in the Sakarya gas field in the Black Sea. We managed to bring the gas to the surface from 2,100 meters underground. Currently, we are producing 6 million cubic meters of gas daily and supplying our own natural gas to 2 million 600 thousand households. Our goal is to increase this figure to 10 million cubic meters and supply our gas to 4 million 400 thousand households by 2025.’
‘The reserve in Gabar will meet one-tenth of our daily consumption with a production capacity of 100 thousand barrels.’
Yılmaz expressed that oil is now being extracted from wells that were previously covered under the pretext of no oil being available and from areas abandoned due to terrorism, continuing his speech: ‘We also made the largest oil discovery on land in the history of the Republic in Gabar. This reserve, with a production capacity of 100 thousand barrels, has the potential to meet one-tenth of our daily consumption by itself. It is also a very high-quality oil, hence very valuable; our daily oil production in Gabar has already exceeded 45 thousand barrels. We are producing over 15 thousand barrels daily in Diyarbakır, over 20 thousand barrels in Batman, and over 10 thousand barrels in Adıyaman. These successes are some of the biggest steps Turkey has taken towards energy independence. We will never compromise on our strong and national energy policies, which we are conducting under the leadership of our President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, in defiance of those who want to exclude Turkey from the energy race. The century of Turkey will be a century where we have ended external dependence in energy and achieved independence.’
After the speeches, Vice President Cevdet Yılmaz and his companions lit the natural gas flare.
