The Samsun Training and Research Hospital’s Pregnancy School, which prepares expectant mothers for childbirth and helps them overcome fears of normal delivery, has graduated 3,000 students in 10 years. Expectant mothers stated that they feel ready for normal delivery thanks to the training they received.

To ensure that expectant mothers have a healthy pregnancy process and complete their births safely, the Samsun Training and Research Hospital’s Pregnancy School was opened by the Ministry of Health’s Samsun Provincial Health Directorate, and so far, 3,000 individuals have received training. After undergoing training in various topics such as pregnancy exercises, pilates, newborn care, breastfeeding, and bathing, expectant mothers completed their 4-week training and received their certificates.

“Normal delivery should be preferred”

Mustafa Uras, the Director of Samsun Provincial Health, who handed out certificates to the expectant mothers, stated, “So far, approximately 10,000 people have benefited from the pregnancy school. We have now graduated our 3,000th student in the certification program. Our expectant mothers are on a beautiful journey. In this journey, a professional team answers any questions that may arise in the minds of expectant mothers before and after delivery. We want our mothers to prefer normal delivery. Cesarean is not a direct method of delivery. It is a surgical procedure that should be preferred when there is a health problem with the baby.”

They overcame the fear of normal delivery

Expectant mother Büşra Ajbek said, “The service continues from the womb to the post-birth process. We learned about how the baby develops in the womb, how we can have a normal delivery, how we can cope with labor pains, and how we can breastfeed and bathe the baby after birth. We received breathing exercise and pilates training.”

Beyza Nur Kerim stated, “We gained information about the newborn process, as well as maternal and infant health, from the pregnancy school. We obtained more realistic information about normal delivery. We realized that the delivery room is not as scary as we thought. We are considering having a safe delivery at a baby-friendly hospital. We are also the 3,000th graduates.”

A cake cutting ceremony was held for the graduated mothers at the Samsun Training and Research Hospital’s Obstetrics and Pediatrics Hospital. The training ended with a group photo session of the expectant mothers who received their certificates.
