Kocaeli Metropolitan Municipality organized various events throughout October to draw attention to the 1-31 October Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Events conducted by the Women and Family Services Department aimed to inform the community and individuals about breast cancer and raise awareness. As part of the breast cancer awareness week organized by Kocaeli Metropolitan Municipality, walks were held in the districts of Izmit, Gölcük, Körfez, and Derince. Participants showed great interest in the events held at the Anne Şehir Merkezi Yasemin, Günebakan, Begonya, and Şehit Er Emre Kaan Arlı Sports Hall facilities. During the event, women walked holding banners that read “Kocaeli Mothers Wear Pink in October,” “Breast Cancer Awareness Month,” “Early Diagnosis Saves Lives in Cancer,” “Self-Examination Saves Lives,” “Fear Not Cancer, Fear Late Diagnosis,” and “I Am Aware, I Am Not Afraid,” highlighting the importance of early detection in breast cancer.
The walk organized in the districts of Izmit, Derince, and Körfez was also accompanied by the KETEM unit of the Provincial Health Directorate. During the program, KETEM officials informed participants about the definition of breast cancer, its symptoms, the importance of early diagnosis, the significance of regular check-ups, and self-examination for breast cancer. After the program, participants were guided to exercise outdoors with the trainers of the Anne Şehir Healthy Living Program.
As part of the organized events, seminars were conducted by specialized doctors for the participants at the Anne Şehir Merkezi Gardenya, Gelincik, Manolya, Nilüfer, and Mimoza facilities in GEBZESEM. The seminars provided information about breast cancer diagnosis and treatment methods, symptoms of breast cancer, and the importance of early detection in breast cancer, with participants’ questions being answered.
