On October 19, 2024, the World Teams Backyard Ultra Championship began simultaneously with the participation of 936 athletes from 63 countries, including Turkey. In this challenging marathon held in the Karaağaçlı neighborhood of Şehzadeler district in Manisa, 15 athletes from Turkey participated. According to the rules, athletes must complete the 6.7-kilometer course every hour to be considered successful. This aspect highlights it as a competition that tests both physical and mental endurance.

At this stage, where 48 hours of the race have passed, only 177 athletes worldwide have the right to continue the competition. The two athletes representing Turkey, Savaş Lütfü Kara from Izmir and Ali Kansu from Antalya, managed to complete the course for 48 hours and continue competing on behalf of Turkey. Turkey, which finished the races held worldwide in 25th place, will gain the right for one athlete from Manisa to participate in the individual championship in the United States in 2025.

The mayor of Şehzadeler, Gülşah Durbay, also participated in the Turkish leg of the competition, providing moral support to the athletes. The Turkish record in the International Backyard Ultra Races belongs to Özgür Sancak, who completed the race lasting 37 hours. The world record was set by American Harvey Lewis in 2023 with a run lasting 108 hours.
