In the opening program of the Adnan Menderes University Academic Year, the Speaker of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey, Numan Kurtulmuş, stated, “We will teach our youth and children knowledge, but we will not forget wisdom and insight. We must also provide wisdom and insight alongside their diplomas.”

The opening of the 2024-2025 Academic Year at Adnan Menderes University was held with a program attended by the Speaker of the Grand National Assembly, Numan Kurtulmuş. The program began with a moment of silence and the reading of the National Anthem. After the opening speeches, the university administration presented a wooden plaque as a gift to Kurtulmuş.

Aydın Governor Yakup Canbolat, in his opening speech, expressed his gratitude: “I would like to express my thanks once again to our Speaker of the Assembly, Numan Kurtulmuş, for taking the valuable time out of his busy schedule to attend our Academic Year Opening Ceremony, knowing his sensitivity in following developments in education and benefiting from his experiences. I hope that the 2024-25 Academic Year of our university will lead to a healthy and successful educational process and I wish it to be beneficial for our dear students, university members, and our country.”

“We will advance technology much further from where we are now”
Starting his speech by wishing the new academic year to be fruitful, Kurtulmuş said, “It is our duty to fight with all the means we have for the Republic of Turkey to be one of the strongest countries in the world. Regardless of where we are or which duty we perform, whether as a faculty member, politician, student, businessperson, farmer, or artist, each of us must do our job to the best of our ability. We will elevate Turkey further, especially in the second century of our Republic, which we desire to be the Century of Turkey. We will advance in knowledge, art, culture, production, and technology much further than where we are now. I wish great success to each of you, whether you are faculty members, administrators, or students in an understanding of a university, which is one of our central bases in the goal of a strong and great Turkey.”

“We must also provide wisdom and insight alongside their diplomas”
Kurtulmuş pointed out that where there are great criminals in the world, there are well-educated individuals who lack wisdom and insight. He stated, “We will carry out the strongest scientific studies, but we will continue these scientific studies with wisdom, producing research that benefits humanity, and with insight, carrying a sense of responsibility towards people with all this knowledge, knowing our role and place. Believe me, in many of the developments that deeply sadden the people in the world, there are very well-educated individuals behind the great criminals. They are diploma holders, but they lack the humanity to commit such clear crimes against humanity. Therefore, we must teach these people wisdom and insight alongside their diplomas, meaning we must teach them beyond mere knowledge.”
Kurtulmuş continued by emphasizing the importance of information and technology, noting that technology should be used correctly for the sake of humanity.
