President Yalçın: “Training saves lives”

Talas Mayor Mustafa Yalçın, in his speech at the ‘Disaster Awareness Training’ organized in cooperation with Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD), said, “This training saves lives.”

The ‘Disaster Awareness Training’, held in the Municipality Council Hall, was attended by Talas Mayor Mustafa Yalçın, as well as deputy mayors, department heads, staff, and officials from AFAD. In the program that the personnel showed great interest in, Talas Mayor Mustafa Yalçın highlighted the importance of education against disasters, stating that the recent earthquakes in Malatya and Sivas had brought disaster training back to the agenda. Mayor Yalçın said, “First of all, I would like to thank Hasan. Just as there is a science for everything, there is also a scientific field for disaster prevention. May God grant strength to our state. AFAD, which is affiliated with the Ministry of Interior, has indeed advanced significantly in terms of technical equipment recently. If we had known exactly what to do in disasters, the loss of life could have been less. Knowledge is above all else. Perhaps we cannot prevent some disasters, but knowing what to do and where to use which tools is very important. These trainings can save lives when the time comes. Therefore, as municipal employees, we are assigned by citizens in all natural disasters, from the apartment to the workplace, from the street to the avenue.”

In the program, Hasan Say, Branch Manager of the Disaster and Emergency Management Center, provided information on what to do in disasters, particularly regarding earthquakes. In the program, which was conducted in a question-and-answer format, practical demonstrations of what to do during an earthquake were also shown. At the end of the program, AFAD Branch Manager Hasan Say presented an emergency kit to Talas Mayor Mustafa Yalçın, who also gave him a plaque in appreciation of his participation.
