‘Süleyman and Others’ met with the people of Bursa.

The Bursa Metropolitan Municipality City Theatre held the premiere of its second play for the 2024-2025 art season, ‘Süleyman and the Others’, with a magnificent performance.

The City Theatre, which brings together dozens of domestic and foreign plays with art enthusiasts in Bursa, presented another new play in the 2024-2025 art season. ‘Süleyman and the Others’, adapted by Yavuz Pekman from Max Frisch’s play ‘Biedermann and the Arsonists’, was staged for the people of Bursa with the magnificent performance of the City Theatre artists. The premiere of the play at the Tayyare Culture Center was attended by Bursa Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Mustafa Bozbey and his wife Seden Bozbey, as well as Bursa City Theatre Artistic Director Ali Düşenkalkar, CHP Provincial Chairman Nihat Yeşiltaş, department heads, branch directors, council members, and many art lovers.

The play ‘Süleyman and the Others’ revolves around the character Süleyman, highlighting the conflicts and social pressures in his life. The ongoing story, presented in a humorous manner, depicts Süleyman’s insensitive and selfish approach to events and situations outside of his own life, as he takes every precaution to prevent his house from burning in a city where fires occur daily, yet approaches the arrival and even settlement of two arsonists in his home cowardly and insensitively. The play features performances by Murat Liman, Seçil Girgin, Faruk Oğur, Mehmet Ali Açıl, Tuba Bayram, Sergen Bölük, Osman Murat Erten, Burak Çağatay Serinbaş, and Ömer Faruk Özkan, directed by Altuğ Görgü. In the play, Sergen Bölük serves as the assistant director, Merve Yörük is responsible for set and costume design, and Cihan Yöntem is in charge of movement coordination.

Bursa Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Mustafa Bozbey, who watched the performance of the City Theatre artists with appreciation, congratulated the actors on stage at the end of the play. Stating that all plays in the new term will be fluid and beautiful, Mayor Mustafa Bozbey said, “Bursa City Theatre spreads art all over Bursa. Let us not forget Atatürk’s words, ‘A nation deprived of art is a nation that has had one of its lifelines severed.’ As the Metropolitan Municipality, we are always by the side of art and artists. We will continue to be in front of art lovers with surprise projects.”

The director of the play, Altuğ Görgü, expressed that it is gratifying to stage an unpublished text. He stated that he believes the play will establish a wholeness with the audience and provide enjoyment, saying, “We worked with Turkey’s best musician, Tolga Çebi. As a result of teamwork, a play was prepared. We thank everyone and we look forward to our play.”
