Senol Gunes: “We have opened a new chapter”

Trabzonspor’s Head Coach Şenol Güneş stated that they have opened a new page and are working to create a team that everyone will enjoy. Güneş mentioned that he had a conversation with Abdullah Avcı.

Before today’s training, Güneş made statements to the press.

Güneş noted that half of the team was absent due to national matches, saying, “We worked with the friends who are here yesterday, we had a training session this morning. Now we will train on the field. Tomorrow there will be two trainings. Sunday is a day off. We will be together when the other coaches come during the week. We are trying to get to know the friends in a short time. We will work according to the situation of the players and their understanding of the game, if there is a deficiency according to us. We also explain our thoughts individually. Because most of them are not here as a team. But right now, all the friends I am working with are harmonious, efficient, and I don’t think there is any problem. They are working quite well. I am satisfied with yesterday’s training. In fact, I occasionally see that they play more incorrectly in free play while playing with counter-passes and one-touch passes, which is an important sign for us. In today’s training, we will try to focus more on vertical plays, especially pressures after losing the ball, and contact plays. We will do this almost all the time. There will be three matches in a row. We will look at the situation of the players coming from the national team. However, primarily those who are here because they are working at a higher tempo. We will create a team from the mix of the two. The matches against Beşiktaş, Kayseri, and Gaziantep will be three in a row. After that, as there will be one match per week, there will be time to rectify the missing players. At this stage, we want to play only the players who are ready and leave the three matches with good results,” he said.

“We want to present a game that everyone will enjoy”

Stating that he is aware of the public’s expectations, Güneş said, “The fans expect beautiful football and good results. Our fans want a passionate game. I am trying to work on this. I tell the players. They must do their best to be a team that they themselves will enjoy and that everyone will enjoy. We will show sincerity, and they will do their best on the field. Being a team where players are stars concerns every segment of the community. We will respect all kinds of criticism. We will take criticisms into account. Ineffective conflicts are of no benefit to Trabzonspor. Starting today, we will open a new page and conduct our work. I will work with good intentions every day,” he stated.

“We will discuss and solve problems internally”

Şenol Güneş stated that there are reasons for the problems in the team and that they are here to solve them, continuing his words as follows:

“It is true that there is already a problem in the team. If past administrations and coaches have been successful, there are also reasons why the expected results are not being achieved today. We will try to discuss and solve these problems among ourselves. We will try to be better both in terms of gameplay and results. The game played does not satisfy either the players or the fans. Everyone sees this; the administration, the fans, and the players all see the same thing. Therefore, our job is easy; we will find the solution. In today’s training, we will try to create a team that thinks more about the attack and can play vertically. However, this is not an easy task. We are trying to create the best squad with the players we have, and I believe we can achieve success.”

“I can promise that I will do my job well”

The experienced coach emphasized that they would give their best, stating, “There was a period in Trabzonspor’s history when it could not crown championships with trophies despite deserving them for many years. This community has crowned it, which is a beautiful thing, but it doesn’t stop there. Today, we have fallen into a debatable situation. Today, there are also difficulties; there will be periods of success and failure. The important thing is to determine how we will progress in this process and how we will achieve success. We will not waste time with complaints about the past today. I thank Abdullah Coach, who served here before me. I spoke with him. In the new period, we will work as a team with new friends. We will strive to create a good team. There will be change in Trabzonspor, but Trabzonspor will always exist. This club will continue to exist after us as well. I know this very well because I have been coming and going for many years. Our fans should know that I am also not satisfied with the current situation of Trabzonspor, just like them. We need to work together to be happy. We must support every player on the field because that player is Trabzonspor’s player. That is Trabzonspor’s coach. There is no separation. Our only deficiency is the results on the field; I will stay on the field as much as possible, but that doesn’t mean I won’t be in the public. I have a duty here in position, and I can promise that I will do this in the best way possible.”

“I have a dream of success in Europe”

The 72-year-old coach stated that beautiful things are being done in Trabzonspor, saying, “Trabzonspor is a big club, but we will strive to be a bigger club outside of Turkey. We had dreams in the past. We went to Europe and competed. Sometimes we failed, but we got somewhere. We are a team that makes noise in the world as a city team. We want to develop and compete by working, not by talking. We can do it, we can do it. I have such a dream. We want to increase the number of players coming from Trabzon. While competing with our own players, we also want to be strong by bringing in strong players from outside. When we look at Barcelona, they produce young players, but they also make transfers. Criticisms should be guiding when made. If you are going to help someone, you should hold the light in front of them, not in their eyes,” he said.

Güneş also emphasized that they will try to continue with the players they have regarding player transfers, concluding his words as follows:

“If we find a very good player, we will take him. Otherwise, we will reassess during the transfer window. Our goal is to act in line with the interests of both the club and the team without creating an economic crisis.”

Trabzonspor continued preparations for the Beşiktaş match

Trabzonspor continued its preparations for the match against Beşiktaş, which they will play at home in the 5th week of the Trendyol Super League. The training conducted under the management of Head Coach Şenol Güneş did not include players who were in the national teams.
