In the U-17 Freestyle World Championship held in Amman, Jordan, Afyonkarahisar TOHM wrestlers Umut Talha Uslu and Fatih Aydın achieved significant success.
Umut Talha Uslu, competing in the 65 kg category, drew attention with his outstanding performance in the championship. He defeated his Canadian opponent with an impressive score of 12-0 in the first round, and in the second round, he won against his Hungarian opponent 10-0 to secure his place in the quarter-finals. In the quarter-finals, he advanced to the semi-finals by defeating his Puerto Rican opponent 5-0.
In the semi-finals, he faced an independent athlete (Russian) in a highly competitive match. At the end of the match, Uslu lost with a score of 4-4, as he believed the referees made a biased decision, but he earned the right to compete for the bronze medal. In the bronze medal match, he became the world third by defeating his Ukrainian opponent with a clear score of 12-1.
Fatih Aydın’s success
Fatih Aydın, competing in the 71 kg category, had a successful start by defeating his Tajik opponent 3-2 in the first round. However, he was eliminated in the second round after losing 10-0 to his Iranian opponent. However, with the Iranian opponent advancing to the finals, he gained the right to compete in the repechage. In the repechage match, he earned his place in the bronze medal match by defeating his Puerto Rican opponent 8-2. In the bronze medal contest, he became the world third by defeating his Hungarian opponent 6-5.
Ismail Hakkı Kasapoğlu, the Provincial Director of Youth and Sports of Afyonkarahisar, welcomed the success of the wrestlers and the national team coach Mehmet Ali Daylak with great satisfaction. Kasapoğlu stated that the achievements of the wrestlers strengthen the position of Turkish sports in the international arena and expressed that the young talents are promising athletes for the future. He also emphasized that coach Mehmet Ali Daylak has made significant contributions to the athletes reaching this level. Kasapoğlu congratulated the athletes and their coach and wished for their continued success.
