The road and infrastructure works that the CHP-run municipality in Kilis has been unable to complete for months have exhausted the tradesmen and citizens. Citizens want the roads under construction to be completed as soon as possible.
The infrastructure and road work, which is among the election promises of CHP Mayor Hakan Bilecen and started immediately after the local elections, has frustrated the citizens. Citizens stated that the roads have been in poor condition for about six months and that heavy traffic has formed in the area due to closed roads; they mentioned that they cannot even open the windows of their homes because of the dust and that they go to the industrial zone with their vehicles every week. The tradesmen also want the works to be completed as soon as possible.
“My brand new motorcycle doesn’t leave the industrial zone”
Ali Demir Kurt, a local resident, stated that his brand new motorcycle cannot leave the industrial zone due to the poor condition of the roads, saying, “I always crash while leaning to the side because the tire slips on the ground when I ride my motorcycle on the bumpy roads. I can’t take my motorcycle out of the industrial zone because of the road issues. We complain to our municipality about the bad roads, but we don’t get any results.”
“My wife hasn’t been able to open the windows for about a month”
Mustafa Demir Kurt, another local resident who described the road and infrastructure project among the election promises as a good project, said, “The road and infrastructure project is a very good project, but it needs to be done on time. My wife hasn’t been able to open the windows of our house for about a month because dust and dirt are coming directly into the house. We support good projects, but we are fed up with the road works that have not been done and have been left unfinished for a month. Unfortunately, unplanned road works are everywhere in the city. I go to Gaziantep, and the road works I see there are very nice and done quickly. The teams clear the designated areas in the morning, and by evening the whole road is finished. Here, it takes months.”
