Zeynep Bayrak, who underwent four surgeries due to the complaint of cerebrospinal fluid leaking from her nose, regained her health at Izmir Economy University (IEU) Medical Point Hospital. Bayrak, who experienced loss of taste and smell, has had her senses restored. Zeynep Bayrak stated, “My complaints have ended. Now I can breathe comfortably. I am happy.”
37-year-old Zeynep Bayrak, living in Izmir, underwent four surgeries due to cerebrospinal fluid leaking through her nose. After her surgeries, she experienced severe headaches, and her complaints were further complicated by the loss of taste and smell. After days of experiencing these losses, Zeynep Bayrak sought help from Izmir Economy University (IEU) Medical Point Hospital. Prof. Dr. Erdem Eren from the Ear, Nose, and Throat (ENT) Department of IEU Medical Point Hospital stated that Zeynep Bayrak’s forehead area was filled and a surgical intervention was necessary in that area. After the surgery performed by Prof. Dr. Erdem Eren and his team, Zeynep Bayrak’s forehead area was emptied.
“Painkillers were not helping”
Zeynep Bayrak expressed that her headache has ended and that her sense of taste and smell returned two days after the surgery, sharing her happiness. Zeynep Bayrak said, “I had sinusitis due to a CSF leak (Cerebrospinal Fluid Leak). I had surgery, but it recurred. I started having severe headaches. This pain reflected in my eyes. I felt a lot of pressure in my eyes. My taste and smell were gone. I felt very bad. The painkillers I used were not helping. I did some research and found Dr. Erdem. He said that surgical intervention was necessary. All my ailments have passed. I feel good right now.”
“The forehead area was filled with fluid”
Prof. Dr. Erdem Eren from the ENT Department stated, “This procedure is more risky in patients who have previously undergone surgery. She had severe pain in her forehead area. In the examinations, we found that the forehead area was filled with cerebrospinal fluid. We opened all the sinuses by entering through both nostrils endoscopically. During the procedure, there was a possibility of cerebrospinal fluid leaking again. There was also a situation where we might not find and open the frontal sinuses. Therefore, such procedures require expertise. Individuals with these complaints should be evaluated by specialist physicians and centers. All of Zeynep’s complaints have resolved.”
