The flag carrier airline of Montenegro, Air Montenegro, has canceled its Istanbul-Tivat flight. Passengers, many of whom are foreign and include women and families with children, protested at Istanbul Airport after their flights were canceled and they have been unable to travel to Montenegro for two days.
According to the information obtained, Air Montenegro’s Istanbul – Tivat flight, which was planned for last Wednesday, was canceled. Following the cancellation, about 200 passengers, including women and families with children, were forced to spend the night at Istanbul Airport and surrounding hotels. Passengers who have been essentially stranded at the airport for two days protested the situation in the departures area of the international terminal. Some passengers experienced nervous breakdowns due to the lack of information from both TGS ground services and Havaş ground services for two days, and the failure to address their grievances. Some passengers were unable to hold back their tears in light of the situation.
Farid Hasanov, expressing that they have been essentially stranded at Istanbul Airport for two days and are extremely disadvantaged due to the events, stated: “They take their money when selling tickets. After that, around 7 AM this morning, nobody gave us any official explanation. Then at 7 AM someone came and if I remember correctly, they said ‘A bird hit your plane, this flight will not take place today.’ They placed us in a hotel. We were supposed to fly with Tailwind Airlines at 1 PM today. We came to the airport and waited for hours, and it was uncertain whether this plane would fly or not. Meanwhile, Tailwind was supposed to take us not to Tivat but to Podgorica, and it is not even clear how we would get to Tivat from there. There is no official announcement, no authority, and nobody is providing any explanations. We go to the ticket counter for information, and they send us to Havaş, where they tell us ‘It’s not our problem.’ No one is giving explanations anywhere. We have been waiting here in distress for almost 24 hours. There are elderly people, sick people, and families with children among us. We also cannot cancel our tickets. Our two days here have already been wasted. No one is helping us, there is no authority, and the police came to try to help us but still, there is nothing, we are still waiting.”
