The opening of the Demirtaş Pack Drinking Water Treatment Plant and the transmission lines, completed by the Bursa Metropolitan Municipality and the BUSKİ General Directorate, has been held. The facility, which will purify 51,840 cubic meters of water per day, will provide drinking water to 400,000 people.

The Demirtaş Pack Drinking Water Treatment Plant and transmission lines, constructed by the Bursa Metropolitan Municipality and BUSKİ General Directorate, have been put into service. The facility, which will operate with 42 deep water wells located in Osmangazi Demirtaş, will purify 51,840 cubic meters of water daily, providing healthy and quality drinking water for 400,000 people. Thanks to the water that meets the 430 criteria set by the World Health Organization, the people of Bursa will be able to drink tap water.

“I recommend our citizens to be sensitive about water usage”

Highlighting the rapidly rising drought worldwide, Bursa Metropolitan Mayor Mustafa Bozbey stated, “One of the most important issues we prioritize as the Bursa Metropolitan Municipality is providing healthy and quality drinking water. I want to remind the people of Bursa that BUSKİ fully implements the criteria set by the World Health Organization and that they should drink tap water. Because our water is delivered to citizens in the healthiest way possible, and our team continuously monitors the quality of the water with around 430 criteria. Our studies for providing healthy and accessible drinking water to Bursa through the Metropolitan Municipality and BUSKİ General Directorate continue at full speed to gain all necessary infrastructure. Drought is a global threat. I particularly recommend that our citizens be sensitive about water usage and avoid wasting water,” he said.

“With the Çınarcık Drinking Water project, Bursa will have no water problem until 2060”

Speaking about the Çınarcık Drinking Water project, which is planned to be completed by the end of 2026, Bozbey stated, “We meet 85% of our city’s water needs from the Doğancı and Nilüfer dams. The remaining 15% is met from the spring sources of Uludağ. If needed, well water can also be activated. Especially for potential drought periods, we have a total of 155 wells with an annual capacity of 55 million cubic meters. Our Çınarcık Drinking Water project is planned to be completed by the end of 2026. Once completed, Bursa will have no water-related problems until 2060. However, we should still be mindful of water usage considering the climatic conditions of the upcoming years,” he said.

400,000 people will be provided with healthy drinking water

Providing information about the Demirtaş Pack Drinking Water Treatment Plant, Bozbey said, “This facility, which we built to improve the quality of the water extracted from our wells, has a capacity of 51,840 cubic meters per day and can serve 400,000 people. We will purify 51,840 cubic meters of water here, ensuring access to quality drinking water for 400,000 of our people. The project, which will operate with a total of 42 deep water wells within the borders of Osmangazi Demirtaş, has a total cost of around 140 million lira, including the collector, transmission lines, and communication system, which is about 1.2 kilometers long. With the Demirtaş Pack Drinking Water Treatment Plant, which will serve approximately 400,000 people, the quality of the water wells activated especially for the drought period will also be further enhanced. We are proud to open this facility, which will add value to our Bursa.”
