One of the most important historical projects of Erzurum Metropolitan Municipality, the Stone Warehouses Covered Bazaar and Historical Dioramas Museum Project has been launched.
Erzurum Metropolitan Mayor Mehmet Sekmen consulted civil initiative organizations, scientists, and historians regarding the project, which was among his election promises. In his evaluations on the subject, Mayor Mehmet Sekmen stated, “As is known, the Stone Warehouses, built as military warehouses by Phosphor Mustafa Pasha between 1860-1870, were used by our Ministry of National Defense as the Erzurum Supply Depot. According to the protocol made with the Ministry, the mentioned historical site was transferred to our Metropolitan Municipality.”
What is the aim of the project?
Erzurum Metropolitan Mayor Mehmet Sekmen expressed the following views about the project: “Our project aims to restore the Stone Warehouses and contribute them to tourism. With an enclosed area of approximately 7 thousand square meters, our Covered Bazaar and Historical Dioramas Museum will narrate the rich traditional product diversity, the variety of handicrafts, the tourism potential of our city, and the impressive historical events that have taken place in our city from past to present. When it becomes operational, this place will be the most important junction where the history of the city converges.” Sekmen also stated that there would be continuous cooperation with civil initiative organizations and universities within the scope of the project.
“History Will Come to Life Again”
Mayor Mehmet Sekmen noted that history would come to life again with this project. He concluded his words by stating: “Within the scope of the project, 6 historical scenes that are of great importance and have been subjects of our city’s impressive historical events and the heroic struggle it demonstrated during the national struggle have been determined. Units will be created where panoramic oil paintings reflecting these scenes will be displayed, as well as paintings related to historical subjects and figures. Thus, it is aimed to leave deep effects on visitors by virtually taking them on a time travel through the artistic narration in panoramic and dioramic museums. Hopefully, with this beautiful project, we will also provide a different attraction to the city of civilizations.”
What does the project include?
The Stone Warehouses Covered Bazaar and Historical Dioramas Museum Project, which will be implemented by Erzurum Metropolitan Municipality, covers a total area of 7 thousand square meters.
