The Chairman of the Justice Commission and Istanbul MP Cüneyt Yüksel announced that the Speaker of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey, Numan Kurtulmuş, has invited Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas to address the Assembly.
Cüneyt Yüksel, the Chairman of the Justice Commission, held a press conference at the Turkish Grand National Assembly (TBMM). In his speech, Yüksel reminded the decision of the International Court of Justice’s advisory panel stating that Israel is in an occupying position in Palestinian territories, and he noted that the court concluded that third states are obliged not to legally recognize the situation arising from Israel’s unlawful presence in the occupied Palestinian territories and not to support Israel in maintaining this situation.
In the continuation of his speech, Yüksel stated, “The Court has expressed that the UN General Assembly and the Security Council must evaluate the methods and steps to immediately terminate Israel’s unlawful occupation. It has been clearly determined through the measures and advisory opinion issued by the International Court of Justice, which consists of distinguished judges serving as the highest and impartial judges of the UN, that the State of Israel and its leaders are deliberately committing genocide, crimes against humanity, and war crimes.”
“Speaker of the Assembly Kurtulmuş has invited Palestinian President Abbas to address the TBMM.”
Yüksel expressed that there is a rapid increase in support for Palestine among the international community, saying, “Our Assembly President Numan Kurtulmuş has written a letter inviting Palestinian President Mr. Mahmoud Abbas to address the TBMM, where the national will is manifested, to powerfully convey the rights and justice struggle of the Palestinian people to the entire world. We also believe that the ongoing struggles in international courts are starting to yield results. We once again promise here that we will continue to increase our solidarity with Palestine in every field.”
In response to a question from reporters regarding who is overseeing the invitation process for Palestinian President Abbas, Yüksel stated, “It is under the control of the Speaker’s Office and the Ministry of Interior.”
