Beşiktaş Municipality’s Sustainable Energy and Climate Action Plan (SECAP), implemented in cooperation with the Istanbul Energy Agency of the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality, was discussed by Beşiktaş Mayor Rıza Akpolat, who stated, “We will increase physical and social resilience against the effects of climate change.”
Beşiktaş Mayor Rıza Akpolat made statements regarding the ‘Sustainable Energy and Climate Action Plan’ (SECAP) initiated in cooperation with the Istanbul Energy Agency to combat climate change and achieve sustainability goals.
“We plan to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 41%”
Speaking about the project, Akpolat said, “I am very pleased to share our ‘Sustainable Energy and Climate Action Plan,’ which is a significant step for the future of Beşiktaş. We are aware of the importance of local governments in the fight against climate change. As Beşiktaş Municipality, we plan to take the necessary actions to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 41% by the year 2030, which is the commitment year of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. I hope that our report, which encompasses this significant goal, will serve as an example for all local governments in our country.”
“We will increase physical and social resilience against the effects of climate change”
Akpolat noted that they have established a plan with two main objectives, identifying 7 goals and 27 strategic action cards. He stated, “In addition to increasing environmental sustainability by ensuring energy efficiency, renewable energy use, and carbon reduction, we will increase physical and social resilience against the effects of climate change. We will complete our preparations against major climatic risks such as heavy rainfall, heat island effects, and sea-level rise. We will take steps together for a greener, cleaner, and more resilient Beşiktaş. Our neighbors can transparently follow this important journey through the environmental portal on the Beşiktaş Municipality website.”
