Prof. Dr. Ebru Yalçın from Bursa Uludağ University, at a training organized in Mudanya for free-roaming animals, stated that dogs understand human body language very well and emphasized the importance of correct approaches and intervention techniques.

In the training titled “Approach and Intervention Techniques for Stray Animals,” organized in collaboration with Mudanya Municipality and the Mudanya Public Education Center (HEM), animal behaviors and proper intervention methods were discussed.

The training held at the Bademli Hanımeli İmece House was attended by the Veterinary Affairs directors and staff from the municipalities of Bursa Metropolitan, Osmangazi, Yıldırım, Gemlik, Mudanya, and İznik. Prof. Dr. Ebru Yalçın, a faculty member of the Internal Medicine Department of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine at Bursa Uludağ University and an animal behavior expert, explained the body language and behaviors of free-roaming animals, the methods of approach, and the correct intervention techniques. Yalçın emphasized that one should approach a dog that is encountered for the first time from a certain distance, stating, “The incidents of biting are related to the fear of dogs. Care should be taken when approaching dogs with puppies. Dogs can quickly and accurately understand the intentions of humans through body language. Accordingly, they determine their own behavior.”

As part of the training program, Mudanya Municipality Veterinary Affairs Director Şükriye Çelikkollu and Mudanya District Agriculture and Forestry Directorate Veterinarian Zekican Tokgöz provided information on intervention methods for free-roaming animals and the changes in the Animal Protection Law No. 5199. At the end of the program, certificates were presented by HEM to the participants who successfully passed the exam.
