In recent years, the insurance sector, which has undergone a significant transformation, is seeking the establishment of a professional chamber.
Abdulcelil Alkış, the founder of Gurbet Kasko, stated in his remarks about the transformation in the sector and the challenges faced by agents that agents, who previously worked with only one insurance company, are now able to work with multiple companies. However, he noted that this expanding network of operations not only provides more flexibility to agents but also brings serious competition and challenges that require sensitivity in relationships.
Alkış emphasized that fluctuations in the economy have deeply impacted the insurance sector, stressing that rising interest rates, inflation, and cost increases have intensified competition in the industry. “Today, while price competition in the sector is rapidly increasing, prices in areas such as comprehensive insurance are decreasing. Certain rates are applied to agents to enable them to provide traffic insurance. Such regulations are changing the way agents do business and bringing them new challenges,” he said, noting that agents are making intense efforts to survive in this dynamic process.
Especially pointing out contradictory situations where an agent can become a competitor to the company they worked with the next day, Alkış stated, “As agents, we often have to act according to the roadmap drawn for us, without having much decision-making power. When our companies say ‘sell’, we sell; when they say ‘don’t sell’, we stop. However, this changing competitive environment also becomes psychologically challenging.”

Abdulcelil Alkış stated that establishing a professional chamber in the insurance sector is essential for creating a healthy and sustainable structure. Calling for insurance agents and companies to act together during this process, Alkış said, “A professional chamber in the insurance sector not only provides a safe umbrella for agents but also enhances the reputation and quality of the profession. This step will not only bring order to the sector but will also strengthen cooperation and solidarity.”
Emphasizing that the unification of the strengths of insurance companies and agents under a professional chamber will highlight not only competition but also the understanding of growing the pie, Alkış said, “We should abandon the rush to grab a share of the pie in the sector and aim to grow the pie together. In this way, both agents and companies win together.”
Alkış called on all stakeholders in the sector regarding the professional chamber, which is of great importance for the future of the insurance sector, stating, “Let’s join hands to enhance the reputation of the agency profession and establish a lasting order in the sector.”
