Painter Ayşen Can will present her painting exhibition themed “The Sailor’s Hope,” consisting of acrylic works created with mixed techniques on canvas, to art enthusiasts on November 15, 2024, at the SANKO Art Gallery.
Can, who traveled the world’s seas for six years because her husband is a sailor, stated, “I chose the sea theme in my works to raise awareness because I believe we need to give more importance to the sea and our sailors.”
Expressing that her works reflect lived experiences, Can remarked, “Life in the sea is very different from that on land. Life at sea is more challenging. I traveled at sea for 45 days without seeing land. I try to convey these experiences in my works.”
The exhibition themed “The Sailor’s Hope,” featuring 28 of Ayşen Can’s works, will open on Friday, November 15, 2024, at 5:30 PM at the SANKO Art Gallery located on the third floor of SANKO Park AVM.
Who is Ayşen Can?
Painter Ayşen Can completed her education in Ankara. The artist, who traveled the world’s seas for 6 years with her husband, a captain, visited and researched art museums in more than 30 countries.
Due to the conditions on the ship, the artist worked with charcoal, pastel, and watercolor, and took many photographs. After returning to Turkey, she was greatly influenced by the sea and life at sea, and she began to create paintings on sea themes. Having participated in 5 solo exhibitions, 28 group exhibitions, 7 workshops and symposiums, and 7 fairs so far, her paintings are included in official and private collections both in Turkey and abroad. Two of her works are exhibited at the Maritime Museum, and she continues her work in her own studio in Istanbul while also giving painting lessons.
