At Çanakkale Onsekiz Mart University (ÇOMÜ), students had the opportunity to taste the dishes prepared by 101 mothers as part of the ‘Meeting of 101 Mothers of Çanakkale with Students on the 101st Anniversary of the Republic’ project.

As part of the project organized by the ÇOMÜ PR Club, university students had the chance to taste the meals prepared by their spiritual mothers. At the event held at the Student Social Activities Center (ÖSEM), dishes such as stuffed grape leaves, meatballs, pastries, desserts, and beverages prepared by 101 mothers were served to the students. The academic advisor of the community and ÇOMÜ History Department Instructor Gökhan Bayram stated, “We are in the 101st year of the Republic, and in this 101st year, 101 mothers from Çanakkale offered treats to the students studying at the university. None of them know each other. They all see the university students here as their children. Each of them shares the dishes they have made at home, such as tabbouleh, pastries, stuffed grape leaves, scones, desserts, and snacks, with the students they consider as their spiritual children. We are also reflecting the spirit of unity, togetherness, and solidarity in Çanakkale here.”

Öznur Benderlioğlu Doğangün, who prepared meals for the students, said, “I am very proud. The students who come to Çanakkale, Çanakkale Onsekiz Mart University, are entrusted to us by their mothers and fathers. Those entrusted ones are our children. Just as we do not want our own children to go to bed hungry, they probably think the same way. As mothers, we will provide them with all the support we can. None of us know each other. 101 mothers came together, and we showcased our skills. Our support will always continue. This is just a small awareness movement. I am sure that the people of Çanakkale will embrace all our children. Because they are our bright future.”

Halil İbrahim Sert, a student at ÇOMÜ, stated, “We have been away from our mothers for a long time. We are away from home-cooked meals. Our 101 mothers brought us home-cooked meals. We have longed for home-cooked meals. I thank them very much, and I kiss their hands.”
