With the start of the fishing season in Çanakkale, a variety of fish have begun to adorn the stalls. The fish known as the “prince of the seas,” the bluefish, is available at 1200 lira per kilo. The price of bonito is 150 lira each.

The fishing ban that started on April 15 ended on September 1. With the opening of the 2024-2025 seafood fishing season, fishermen who said ‘Vira Bismillah’ set out to sea with their trawler boats. As the fishing season began in the seas of Çanakkale, the fish stalls became lively with a variety of fish. As the fish became abundant, citizens showed great interest. The bluefish has also made its place on the fish stalls. The bluefish, referred to as the “prince of the seas,” is sold at 1200 lira per kilo. The bonito is sold for 150 lira each.

Hasan Doğuş Tunç, a fishmonger, stated that there is a wide variety of fish this season, saying, “This year our fishing season was abundant. Bonito was plentiful this year. It made both citizens and the fishermen and sailors at the stalls happy. The prices for bonito started at 70 lira. The fish were small in size at first. Later, the fish reached one kilo. Currently, 1 kilo 200 grams and 1 kilo 300 grams are priced at 150 lira. Due to weather conditions, the price of bonito sometimes rose to 175 lira. But right now, bonito is sold at 150 lira,” he said.

Hasan Doğuş Tunç expressed that the bluefish season started late this year, stating, “Last year, there was plenty of bluefish. This year, the bluefish has arrived a bit late. Bluefish is just beginning to show its face. The price is a bit high, but we expect a slight decrease in price in the coming days, even though we do not expect an excessive abundance. There is bluefish in the strait as well. We have bluefish at our stall too. Currently, bluefish is sold for between 1000 lira and 1200 lira depending on the fish. Additionally, little tunny and yellowfin are starting to appear. Little tunny is sold for between 300 and 400 lira depending on the fish. Yellowfin is sold for between 500 and 600 lira.”
