An information meeting on the National Action Plan for Combating Addiction was held in Niğde.
Niğde Governorship, in cooperation with the Green Crescent Niğde Branch and the Provincial Directorate of National Education, organized a program at the Niğde Municipality Cultural Center to inform school principals and guidance counselors about addiction. In his speech, Niğde Governor Cahit Çelik stated that the most important step in combating addiction is to raise awareness. Emphasizing that the education community has significant responsibilities in the fight against addiction, Governor Çelik said, “There are three important stages of addiction. The first is awareness, the second is combating demand, and the third is rehabilitation. The more aware we make our children and families in terms of awareness, the less demand there will be for drugs, cigarettes, and alcohol. In this context, many institutions are involved. It is very important for families, our schools, the mufti’s office, and institutions like the Green Crescent to work together on awareness activities. We all have important responsibilities in the fight against drugs. Let us not forget that we need to work together for our children and youth to take steps towards a healthy future.”
Expressing that addiction not only endangers the health of young people but their entire lives, Hayri Yıldız, President of the Green Crescent Niğde Branch, stated, “As part of the Niğde Action Plan, we have planned activities related to combating addiction for our teachers, students, and parents in schools. The Green Crescent, which signs preventive activities to produce solutions to the addiction problem among young people, emphasizes how tobacco, alcohol, substance, gambling, and technology addictions restrict the freedom of youth with ‘Independent Youth.'”
After the speeches, a training on ‘Combating Addiction’ was provided to the participants by Associate Professor Dr. Mustafa Kaçmaz from Niğde Ömer Halisdemir University Faculty of Medicine.
