A drill was conducted on November 12th, Disaster Preparedness Day, in Bakırköy. The municipal teams that conducted the drill accelerated their efforts to ensure full coordination in the event of a possible disaster.
In addition to raising awareness about the reality of earthquakes, Bakırköy Municipality, which is preparing for disasters with its accredited search and rescue team, organized a drill at the Disaster Management Training Area located in Ayamama Life Valley. The drill, held on the ‘Disaster Preparedness Day’ declared after the 1999 Düzce earthquake, included the Bakırköy Municipality Search and Rescue Team (BAKUT), the Neighborhood Disaster Volunteers (MAG), and the Neighborhood Disaster Volunteers Emergency Response (MAG Ame) association members, who conducted interventions that would be made in the event of a possible disaster. In addition to the debris area created by the Bakırköy Municipality Disaster Affairs Directorate, a multi-faceted coordination was achieved with the management tent located in the prepared camp area.
“Our efforts for a disaster-ready Bakırköy will continue”
Özgür Kaymakoğlu, the Director of Disaster Affairs in Bakırköy, who directed the drill, stated, “Today is the anniversary of the 1999 Düzce earthquake. We wish God’s mercy on our citizens who lost their lives. November 12th was declared as ‘Disaster Preparedness Day’. In this context, we organized a drill to measure how prepared we are for disasters as Bakırköy Municipality and to prepare Bakırköy for disasters. While organizing this drill, we invited our MAG and MAG Ame associations and carried out this work together, ensuring integration with other search and rescue teams. According to our drill scenario, we created a camp area and a debris area here. One of the first things to be done in the camp area is the establishment of the ‘Management Tent’. Following the coordination of the management tent, the search and rescue teams began their work in the debris area. With the debris work carried out, our drill was successfully completed. In our next drill, we will establish a ‘Crisis Center’. As the Bakırköy Municipality Disaster Affairs Directorate, our efforts for a disaster-ready Bakırköy will continue.”
