The founder of the Republic of Turkey, Great Leader Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, was commemorated in Muş with a ceremony on the 86th anniversary of his passing.
The program began with the laying of a wreath at the Atatürk statue in the City Square, followed by a moment of silence at 09:05 accompanied by a siren sound, after which the National Anthem was sung. Then, a program organized by the teachers and students of Muş Science High School took place in the conference hall of the teacher’s house, where speeches were made about the significance of the day and poems were recited. The program concluded with a music performance prepared by Şehit Yücel Kurtoğlu Fine Arts High School.
In his speech, Muş Governor Avni Çakır stated that they gathered to commemorate the 86th anniversary of the departure of Gazi Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, the symbol of the nation’s struggle for independence and freedom, and said, “Today is not only a day of commemoration; it is also a day to once again understand the values of the Republic that Atatürk entrusted to us and to express our determination to uphold his legacy. Atatürk led our nation on the path of freedom and independence, leaving us the goal of reaching contemporary civilization as a legacy. Thanks to his visionary and resolute leadership, our nation has gained the right to determine its own future and has been equipped with the fundamental values of the Republic. These values continue to guide us today, providing a strong foundation for the progress of our country in every field. While laying the foundations of our Republic, Atatürk was not only the leader of the independence struggle; he also charted a new path for this nation with the ideal of a contemporary, strong, and prosperous Turkey. This path has been shaped under the guidance of reason and science, around the principles of freedom and equality. We emphasize once again our determination to continue walking on this path shown by Atatürk and to work with all our strength to carry the values of the Republic into the future. With his words, ‘My humble body will surely turn to dust one day; however, the Republic of Turkey will remain forever,’ Atatürk reminds us once again that the greatest legacy left for the future is independence and the Republic.”
Continuing his speech addressing the youth, Governor Çakır said, “Atatürk’s greatest assurance is the Turkish youth, whom he saw as the guarantee of our future. Gazi Mustafa Kemal Atatürk expressed the value he placed on our youth with the words, ‘All my hope is in youth.’ He believed that the strong Turkey of tomorrow would rise on the shoulders of our youth. As we progress on this bright path he drew, we are determined to always guide our youth and provide them with the best opportunities. With these feelings, I commemorate the founder of our Republic, Gazi Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, and all the heroic comrades-in-arms, as well as all the heroes of the national struggle, our revered martyrs who sacrificed their lives for our homeland and sacred values from the past to the present, and our heroic veterans who have passed away, with mercy, gratitude, and appreciation.”
The program was attended by Muş Chief Public Prosecutor Hüseyin Kantar, Provincial Gendarmerie Commander Colonel Yılmaz Kırgel, Provincial Police Chief Serkan Karaman, deputy governors, department heads, teachers, and students.
