The Ağrı Revenue Administration has initiated inspection activities aimed at combating the informal economy for businesses operating in various sectors. Under the leadership of Revenue Director Mustafa Yılmaz Şimşek, these inspections include efforts to raise public awareness about taxes and to provide information to prevent the informal economy. Director Şimşek emphasized that the inspections will continue and called on citizens about the importance of paying taxes.

Director Şimşek stated, “For our country to develop further, for public services to be effectively delivered to citizens, and for future generations to live in prosperity, it is very important for tax revenues to be collected timely and healthily. Paying taxes is a civic duty. The registration of taxes that need to be collected by the state is possible by obtaining receipts and invoices. When receipts or invoices are not obtained, these transactions are considered informal and lead to a reduction in the tax base.”

Director Şimşek reminded that with the amendments made by the tax laws numbered 7524, published in the Official Gazette dated August 2, 2024, consumers who do not receive receipts or invoices will also be penalized. He stated, “If no document is provided, citizens will face a special penalty for irregularities if they do not report this to the Revenue Administration within 5 business days. This application imposes the obligation to obtain documents during purchases on both the seller and the buyer.” Additionally, Director Şimşek emphasized that citizens who do not receive receipts must request them for the goods and services they have acquired to avoid penalties.

Director Şimşek also mentioned that fines for businesses that do not issue receipts or invoices have increased, stating, “Businesses that do not provide receipts may face fines starting from 10,000 TL and going up to 100,000 TL. Regardless of the amount, it is a legal obligation for our citizens to obtain receipts. The failure to collect taxes supports the informal economy, and therefore it is important for every citizen to receive their documents completely.”

Director Şimşek stated that citizens can contribute to the fight against the informal economy by reporting businesses that do not issue receipts. Complaints can be made to the Tax Office via petition, as well as through the Revenue Administration’s Tax Communication Center (VİMER) at the hotline number 189.

Director Şimşek mentioned that they are deepening their efforts to increase fairness and efficiency through tax inspections and requested citizens to be sensitive during this process and to support the fight against tax evasion.
