Alanya University commemorated the 86th anniversary of the death of Gazi Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, the founder of the Republic of Turkey, with a ceremony.
In the memorial ceremony held at the Şebnem Köseoğlu Conference Hall of the university, speeches were made about Atatürk’s legacy, revolutions, and the contemporary values he brought to Turkey. In the opening speech of the program, Alanya University Vice Rector Prof. Dr. Mehmet Yazıcı stated, “Today, on the 86th anniversary of the passing of our Republic’s founder, Gazi Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, we once again remember him with love, respect, gratitude, and longing. Atatürk was not only the savior of the Turkish nation and the leader of our Republic but also a great leader worldwide with the reforms he brought in education, science, modernization, the place of women in society, and law. With this leadership perspective, we are committed to raising our youth in our university inspired by Atatürk’s ideas as contemporary individuals who grow in the light of science, embrace the values of our Republic, and adopt Atatürk’s principles. Based on his words, ‘Science is the truest guide for everything in the world, for civilization, for life, for success. Seeking a guide outside of science is ignorance, folly, and deviation,’ we once again pledge to always prioritize science, reason, and free thought. Atatürk, with the revolutions he carried out in the fields of science and education, has guided not only Turkey but all humanity. One of the most important legacies he left us is equal opportunity in education, the spread of scientific thinking, and a society that respects the human rights of every individual. Dear friends, beloved students, and esteemed guests, today, while we commemorate Atatürk together, we once again commit to preserving his ideas and the Republic he entrusted to us forever. In this path, we remember all our martyrs, especially the founder of our Republic, Gazi Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, with mercy and gratitude, and we express our thanks to all the heroes who have enabled us to live in peace in this land. May your soul be at peace.”
In the program, Dr. Özge Kurşun Tükenmez also gave a speech about Atatürk’s legacy and ideas. Tükenmez reminded the participants of the importance of Atatürk’s revolutions that brought enlightenment to Turkey while explaining the contemporary values he introduced.
