Constant bloating, stomach problems, and abdominal pain can be early signs of ovarian cysts. Prof. Dr. Selahattin Kumru emphasized that regular check-ups and taking symptoms seriously are important in reducing the risks posed by ovarian cysts. Kumru stated, “Do not ignore the symptoms and make sure to have regular check-ups.”

Ovarian cysts, one of the most common gynecological issues in women, often grow without showing any symptoms, but sometimes they manifest with complaints such as pain and bloating. Women’s Health and Obstetrics Specialist Prof. Dr. Selahattin Kumru noted that the symptoms can vary depending on the type and size of the cyst.

“Make sure to have regular check-ups”
Prof. Dr. Selahattin Kumru stated, “Sometimes, when the intestines are affected, painful bowel movements may occur. There may be difficulties in urination. Various complaints related to the organs in the pelvic area, which is known as the pelvis, can arise, and there may also be complaints of difficulty in getting pregnant. Additionally, prolonged groin pain is also quite common. In tumor cysts during menopause, symptoms such as abdominal swelling, frequent urination due to pressure on the organs in the area, constipation complaints, and sometimes the onset of vaginal bleeding in postmenopausal women, as well as abdominal pain, especially in large tumors during menopause, are symptoms encountered. Cysts that do not show any symptoms may also be incidentally discovered during routine check-ups. Therefore, do not ignore the symptoms and definitely have regular check-ups,” he said.

“Cysts can cause depression”
Emphasizing that as the cyst grows, especially hormone-secreting types can cause hormonal imbalances in the body, Selahattin Kumru continued: “For example, sudden fluctuations in estrogen or progesterone levels can lead to changes in mood, energy levels, and the menstrual cycle. Some women may also face mental health issues such as depression and anxiety due to the cyst. The treatment of ovarian cysts is determined based on the type, size, and symptoms of the cyst. In some cases, surgical intervention may be necessary. Birth control pills or hormone-regulating medications may be used for cysts arising from hormonal imbalances. However, close medical follow-up is essential.”

“Noticing changes in the body positively affects the treatment process”
Prof. Dr. Selahattin Kumru emphasized that regular gynecological check-ups have critical importance in protecting women’s health, stating, “Conditions like ovarian cysts, which are often overlooked, can be diagnosed at an early stage thanks to these check-ups. Women noticing changes in their bodies positively impacts the early diagnosis and treatment process; cysts typically grow without symptoms, but some symptoms can be clues for detecting cysts.” Kumru reiterated the importance of regular check-ups and taking symptoms seriously to reduce the risks posed by ovarian cysts.
