Harvest has begun in Adıyaman, which ranks third in Turkey in the production of persimmons.

A harvest festival was organized for the persimmon, which is increasing in cultivation area every year with the support of the government in seedlings. In Adıyaman, which ranks third in production in Turkey, approximately 13 thousand tons of persimmons are obtained from an area of 7 thousand decares. This year, a yield similar to last year is expected. The harvested persimmons are collected by workers and placed in crates. The fruits are then purchased by merchants and consumed in the domestic market.

Adıyaman Governor Osman Varol, Gölbaşı District Governor Tarık Buğra Seyhan, and Agricultural and Forestry Director Nurettin Kıyas attended the persimmon harvest festival.

In his statements here, Adıyaman Governor Osman Varol said, “The cultivation of persimmons in our province started relatively late but has developed very rapidly after it began, and today in Turkey, the Kozan district of Adana, the Honaz district of Denizli, and in third place is our Gölbaşı district of Adıyaman. Our farmers make a significant contribution to production in Turkey. In this regard, after analyzing the situation in the region, our farmers have shown enthusiasm and ownership of this matter, followed by the great support from various units of our government; we can mention the 115 thousand seedlings distributed recently by our governorate, our ministry, and our special administration.”

Agricultural and Forestry Director Nurettin Kıyas also stated, “We have about 7 thousand decares of cultivation area. From this area, we obtain 13 thousand tons of persimmons. Our farmers yield an average of between 2 to 3 tons. Our farmers are satisfied with the size and yield of the product this year. Currently, sales are being made in the field at a price ranging between 15-20 lira.”
