A training seminar on the ‘Media Literacy’ curriculum was held for students at Orgeneral Halil Sözer Middle School in Eskişehir. The General Directorate of Basic Education of the Ministry of National Education emphasized the skill of media reading for 7th or 8th grade students in middle schools and imam hatip middle schools, as well as in communication faculties where media practices are taught vocationally. Media literacy has become one of the most preferred courses for communication students. Educator Ertuğrul Altınel spoke at the training seminar regarding the ‘Media Literacy’ curriculum at Eskişehir Orgeneral Halil Sözer Middle School, stating, “Digital literacy is the ability to access data in both real and virtual environments correctly for the desired purpose and to use it efficiently with the right methods. Media encompasses a wide range, including information literacy, media education, visual literacy, media literacy, news literacy, health media literacy, and digital literacy. All these literacies require certain skills in children and young people. Many people use digital media to communicate with friends, share photos, learn by searching for anything they are curious about, and create content on various topics from science to art. Media literacy is a concept that everyone frequently hears and is curious about. The content of media literacy is quite broad. Considering this aspect, it is necessary to thoroughly learn media literacy. Media is changing day by day, and this change sometimes progresses very quickly. It is essential to keep up with the change and adapt to the times. Radio, television, computers, newspapers, and many other elements are part of the media. Even people’s communication with each other creates media. In media literacy, individuals become very sensitive to their surroundings while also possessing the ability to interpret, and it becomes faster to access information,” he said. The training seminar was attended by teachers and 5th grade students. At the end of the program, a bouquet of flowers was presented to educator Ertuğrul Altınel by School Principal Oktay Turinay and teacher Demet Aydın.
