The “Biz Şişli” event series launched by Şişli Municipality to emphasize the unifying power of cultural diversity in the district continues in November with a series of special events. Within the scope of the events, Şişli residents will be enriched with culture and art through free theater, film, concerts, workshops, cultural tours, and discussions this November. The November events will begin tomorrow with the theater play “Who is There? Muhsin Bey’s Last Hamlet.”
Şişli Municipality initiated the “Biz Şişli” event series on September 1st, aiming to promote the city’s historical texture, multicultural heritage, and experience of living together, with its multilingual, multicultural, and multi-religious structure. “Biz Şişli” will continue to meet citizens with special events on a different theme each month until June 2025.
“In the Footsteps of Time”
The November events of “Biz Şişli”, which aim to carry Şişli’s unique cosmopolitan structure, historical and cultural riches from the past to the present and the future, will take place under the theme “In the Footsteps of Time.” Within the scope of the events, theater, film, concerts, workshops, cultural tours, and discussions will be held free of charge for art lovers.
Theater: “Who is There? Muhsin Bey’s Last Hamlet”
The November event series of “Biz Şişli” will kick off on November 8th with the play “Who is There? Muhsin Bey’s Last Hamlet.” Theater enthusiasts will embark on a journey to the roots of theater and the memory of master actor, director, manager, and producer Muhsin Ertuğrul through the play presented by BGST (Boğaziçi Performing Arts Community).
Workshop: Processing Memory Workshop
The Processing Memory Workshop, prepared in collaboration with the Human Rights Academy and the Friedrich Naumann Foundation, will leave traces of human rights from the past to the present on November 12th. Within the workshop, a study on human rights will be conducted based on photographs taken in Şişli.
Discussion: A Feminist Perspective on the Life Story of Mermaid Eftalya
Ethnomusicologist Evrim Hikmet Öğüt examines the fascinating life story of the Greek vocalist Athanasia Yeorgiadu, known as ‘Mermaid Eftalya,’ from a feminist perspective. In the discussion to be held on November 14th, she evaluates Eftalya’s life, her place in the music world, and the struggle she faced as a female musician against the challenges of the era with a holistic view.
Tour: In the Footsteps of Time Şişli Memory Tour
On November 19th, guided by Aleksandır Masev and consulting from the Istanbul Tükenmeden team, participants will embark on a time journey exploring Şişli’s multicultural history and significant landmarks. Stops on the memory tour include the Bulgarian Exarchate, Şişli Mosque, Mongeri House, Taste Stops of Tatavla, Feriköy Sports Club, and Aya Dimitri Church.
