The “International Student Meeting” held in Kocaeli showcased colorful scenes. At the event, international students introduced their countries through traditional dance performances and cuisine.
Kocaeli Metropolitan Municipality organized the International Student Meeting at Kocaeli University Umuttepe Campus for students coming to the city from their countries. In cooperation with Kocaeli University DILMER and the Kocaeli International Student Association, the event facilitated international students to meet each other while providing them the opportunity to learn about the city.
Hundreds of foreign students attended the event, primarily from countries including Afghanistan, Azerbaijan, Bangladesh, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Algeria, the Dominican Republic, Ethiopia, Georgia, Cameroon, Kazakhstan, Kosovo, Nepal, Pakistan, Serbia, Tunisia, Turkmenistan, and Jordan.

Speaking at the event, Kocaeli University Rector Prof. Dr. Nuh Zafer Cantürk said, “I am very happy to meet with you dear students who have come here from different geographies, different cultures, and with different stories. I sincerely thank DILMER, which organized this beautiful event, and the Kocaeli Metropolitan Municipality and the Kocaeli International Student Association, who are always by our side. Kocaeli University, which has 2033 international students, offers an environment where different cultures can come together to share knowledge and experience, with its scientific accumulation and understanding of social responsibility. I believe that you will become cultural ambassadors representing Turkey, equipped not only with academic knowledge but also with cultural values in this environment.”
Students introduced their cultures
After the speeches, international students presented traditional dance performances and music concerts from the Caucasus, Africa, the Balkans, and Latin America. Following the opening ceremony, foreign students showcased their homemade dishes in traditional costumes at the stands set up by the Metropolitan Municipality, while also having the opportunity to show their traditional dances to the people of Kocaeli. Additionally, the Antique Gate teams of the Metropolitan Municipality provided meals to the students in the area.
