Contribution of metropolitan cities to the fight against the climate crisis

Under the “City Pairing for a Green Future” grant program between Turkey and the EU, a project prepared by Izmir Buca Municipality, jointly conducted with Adana Metropolitan Municipality, Stuttgart Municipality, Pülümür Municipality, and Yuva Association, and involving 21 district municipalities as participant municipalities, continued its activities in Adana for 3 days.

During the training organized by Adana Metropolitan Municipality, technical personnel from the Climate Change and Zero Waste Department, the Women and Family Services Department, the Fire Department, and the district municipalities of Yumurtalık and Karataş participated, providing “train-the-trainer” training to 45 individuals.

In the trainer training held at Adana Metropolitan Municipality, presentations were given on “Climate Crisis and Environmental Disasters” and “Renewable Energy Sources and Mitigation Solutions” by Prof. Dr. Mesut Başıbüyük from Çukurova University’s Department of Environmental Engineering, and project advisors Dr. Hasan Sarptaş from Ege University’s Environmental Engineering and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mete Çubukçu from Electrical Engineering, as part of the climate crisis combat training.

It was emphasized that the main objective of the project titled “We Are Also Involved in the Fight Against the Climate Crisis” is to establish a cadre that will provide training on the climate crisis and the fight against this crisis in Adana and its districts, and to increase awareness by providing this training throughout the city.

With this project and training, it is aimed to minimize the negative impacts that may arise from the climate crisis across Adana and to reduce the level of vulnerability to potential problems.

Adana Metropolitan Mayor Zeydan Karalar, who has shown high sensitivity to issues such as global warming, water conservation, and environmental protection, has made significant contributions by participating in meetings, organizations, workshops, and projects related to these issues since his tenure as the district municipality mayor. He also established the Climate Change and Zero Waste Department within Adana Metropolitan Municipality.
