Claims that alcoholic beverages would be sold in the municipality’s social facilities have stirred up controversy.

Speaking about the claims that alcoholic beverages will be sold at social facilities belonging to Afyonkarahisar Municipality, AK Party Afyonkarahisar Provincial Chairman Av. Turgay Şahin said, “We don’t even want to believe this; we don’t consider it possible that the municipality would go this far, but we want to inform the public that we will follow this issue meticulously.”

The AK Party Afyonkarahisar Provincial Presidency held its weekly ordinary press conference under the leadership of Chairman Şahin. During the press conference, evaluations were made regarding the national and local agenda, and Vice Chairman responsible for Promotion and Media Halil İbrahim Sevim, Women’s Branch President Av. Ferda Ertürk, and Youth Branch President Ethem Karahan also accompanied Chairman Şahin.

Speaking at the meeting, Chairman Şahin stated, “Despite changing shapes to get votes from nationalist and conservative voters, their true face and identity have started to emerge in the first six months. The businesses they are trying to grant alcohol licenses to with a fait accompli in the Municipal Council should be certain of the council’s decision, as they have made investments worth millions of liras. Alcohol is the mother of all evils and the gateway to other addictive substances. It is a constitutional obligation for public institutions, such as municipalities, to fight against alcohol and alcoholism. The state takes necessary measures to protect young people from alcohol addiction, drugs, guilt, gambling, and similar bad habits, and ignorance. We do not even want to believe the intensifying news and rumors that alcoholic beverages will be sold at municipal social facilities; we do not consider it possible for the municipality to go this far, but we want to inform the public that we will follow this issue meticulously. We will fight against any violation that would undermine the trust of our people in Afyonkarahisar and throughout Turkey to the last drop of our blood. We will never betray the trust of our esteemed nation in our AK Party.”
