In the earthquake, which is described as a disaster of the century, Süleyman Öztürk’s 18-decare field located in the Çınarlı neighborhood of Defne district, Hatay was split in two. The crack that emerged in the split field is 4 meters deep and 3 meters wide, and it was noticed by citizens long after the earthquake. Öztürk, who realized the massive crack in his field after his neighbors told him about it, was frightened by the sight.

Süleyman Öztürk expressed that his 18-decare field was split due to the earthquake and that he felt fear when he first saw it, saying, “An island formed in my 18-decare field after the earthquake. The earthquake split my garden in two. A crack formed that is 3 meters wide, 4 meters deep, and 15 meters long. After the earthquake, a friend of mine noticed the crack while going down to the garden and called me. I was very sad and scared to see the garden like this. I think about what would have happened if there was a house here. When I think about it, I get very upset. The road was cracked after the earthquake, but I filled it with a digger to be able to go down. The end of my 18-decare field was split in two. I will learn the solution to this by consulting my surroundings about what I can do. Some friends say to cover the right and left sides and make a pool. They say you can collect water here and irrigate your field. I haven’t made a definitive decision yet. I was very uneasy when I first saw it. It seems as if walls have been built in the cracked area. There are walls on its right and left. A pomegranate tree has fallen and is hanging in the air. Seeing this sends shivers down your spine.”
