UN Turkey Resident Coordinator Ahonsi discussed the ‘global water crisis’ at Atılım University.

The conference on ‘United Nations Programs and Initiatives for Sustainable Solutions’ was held at Atılım University with the participation of UN Resident Coordinator in Turkey, Dr. Babatunde Ahonsi.

At Atılım University, where the theme of the 2024-2025 Academic Year was determined as ‘Water’ and various events are organized in this context, the conference on ‘United Nations Programs and Initiatives for Sustainable Solutions’ was held. During the conference, UN Resident Coordinator in Turkey, Dr. Babatunde Ahonsi, gave a speech titled ‘Global Water Crisis’. In his speech, Dr. Ahonsi informed students and academics about the UN’s work regarding the water crisis.

“We are organizing different events under the water theme determined to draw attention to the water crisis in the world,” said Prof. Dr. Yılser Devrim, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering at Atılım University, while providing information to the IHA reporter about the event. He emphasized that the theme of the university for the 2024-2025 academic year is the water theme. In this context, he stated that they hosted UN Resident Coordinator in Turkey, Dr. Ahonsi, at the university. “We are organizing various events under the water theme determined to draw attention to the water crisis in the world. Today, Dr. Ahonsi provided us with very valuable information about the global water crisis and informed us about the work the United Nations is doing in this regard. Of course, the water crisis is very important. Especially as technology advances rapidly in our world, we talk about constant updates, but there is also a significant crisis our world is facing. One of these is the water crisis and climate change. All of these are issues that will affect our future lives and future generations. Therefore, it is very important to produce solutions, take precautions, and raise awareness in society regarding the water crisis. In this event, we also wanted to inform our students, academics, and other participants who came to our event,” he said.
