The exhibition ‘Elisa Zonaro’s Istanbul’ met with art lovers in Zeytinburnu.

The Zeytinburnu Municipality brought together art lovers in the “Elisa Zonaro’s Istanbul” exhibition at Kazlıçeşme Art.

Zeytinburnu Municipality is hosting the “Elisa Zonaro’s Istanbul” exhibition, which consists of photographs taken by Italian photographer Elisa Zonaro during her years with her husband Fausto Zonaro in the Ottoman Empire. The opening of the exhibition, held at Kazlıçeşme Art, was attended by Istanbul Governor Davut Gül, Zeytinburnu Mayor Ömer Arısoy, Zeytinburnu District Governor Adem Uslu, the President of the AK Party Zeytinburnu District Abdül Selami Delibalta, council members, village heads, and art enthusiasts.

In his speech at the exhibition, Istanbul Governor Davut Gül stated, “No matter where we look in Istanbul, we will see in the photographs from 100 years ago; it is the most beautiful city in the world. We also live in this most beautiful city of the world. Culture suits Istanbul very well, art suits it very well, exhibitions suit it very well; such activities suit it very well. But it suits Zeytinburnu differently within Istanbul, and it suits Kazlıçeşme differently as well. There are cultural events held for about three months every year; therefore, we thank the Mayor of Zeytinburnu and the artists. Whatever he does, whatever beautiful event he organizes, the continuation and repetition of this actually depends on the interest of art lovers. That’s why your participation in this event at this hour of the evening, experiencing this joy, will motivate our Mayor to continue these kinds of events,” he said.

Speaking about the exhibition, Zeytinburnu Mayor Ömer Arısoy said, “We just opened Elisa Zonaro’s exhibition at Kazlıçeşme Art. This exhibition will continue until January 31. Elisa Zonaro is the wife of Augusto Zonaro; she is a painter, and Elisa is a photographer. They have become two important artists who complement each other and have depicted Istanbul from 100 years ago, turning it into visual material. Sometimes Elisa Zonaro modeled, and sometimes the photographs taken by Elisa Zonaro turned into paintings by Augusto Zonaro. There are photographs that have been revealed for the first time in this exhibition. We definitely invite those who want to see Istanbul from 100 years ago to the exhibition “Istanbullu” by Elisa Zonaro at Kazlıçeşme Art. Our exhibition will be open until January 31, 2025; I invite all Istanbulites and art lovers to come see this exhibition,” he stated.
