The ‘From Soil to Table Edirne Gastronomy Festival’, which will be held at Karaağaç Historical Train Station in Edirne from November 1-3, started with colorful scenes.
Throughout history, Edirne has been a meeting point for cultures and a bridge that carries the flavors of Anatolia to the Balkans, hosting the ‘From Soil to Table Edirne Gastronomy Festival’. Special efforts have been made to bring forgotten flavors of the city’s gastronomy to light. The Edirne Governorship has completed the efforts initiated to diversify gastronomy tourism in the city and to collect the recipes of forgotten dishes.
This year’s festival began with a parade. A parade was organized from in front of the Edirne Governorship to the Mimar Sinan Statue, accompanied by a band.
After the parade, which ended in front of the Mimar Sinan Statue, ‘Gaziler Helvası’, a type of sweet traditionally served when sending soldiers off to battle and welcoming them back, was served to the citizens, along with Deva-i Misk. Colorful scenes emerged during the distribution. Citizens seemed to compete with each other to receive the treats.
After the distribution, Edirne Governor Yunus Sezer stated to the press that they experienced a historical moment in a historical venue and aimed to make the Gastronomy Festival, held for the first time this year, a traditional event.
Governor Sezer indicated that Edirne would host a very beautiful festival, emphasizing that the city is the starting point and cradle of both Balkan and Rumelia cuisine, as well as Palace cuisine.
Governor Sezer mentioned that the long-standing efforts have begun to bear fruit and stated their goal to preserve the cultural and gastronomic heritage and pass it on to future generations along with the recipes.
Governor Sezer noted that there would be both festivities, music, and a feast of food throughout the three days of the Edirne Gastronomy Festival, expressing their aim to make this festival a traditional event.
“We have chefs from all over Turkey and the Balkans”
Governor Sezer mentioned that there are chefs from all over Turkey and the Balkans, saying, “They will also bring their dishes and their gastronomic kitchen to Edirne. Famous chefs will interpret Palace and Rumelia cuisine at the festival and present various dishes to the public. Hundreds of different dishes will be prepared at our festival. Citizens can access the book at Edirne.com.tr. The recipes in the book can be accessed via a QR code system, and it is possible to follow the preparation of all the dishes.”
After his statement, Governor Sezer went to the pot to distribute Gaziler Helvası to the citizens.
