In Sultanbeyli, narcotic police organized a drug seminar for mothers under the “Best Narcotic Police; Mother” project.

On October 31, the “Best Narcotic Police; Mother” event was held in Mecidiye Neighborhood of Sultanbeyli. Hosted by the headman of Mecidiye Neighborhood, Hatice Türkeri, the event involved narcotic teams from the Sultanbeyli District Police Department informing participating mothers about drugs. Headman Türkeri distributed brochures to the participants along with the police during the seminar.

“Our young children are falling victim to drugs”

Mecidiye Neighborhood Headman Hatice Türkeri stated in her remarks that they aim for the organization to serve as an example in Sultanbeyli, saying, “We are aware of the incidents occurring in our neighborhood. Our young children are falling victim to drugs. Drugs are being used in parks and on school routes. Our goal is to work hand in hand with our police to combat this issue as much as possible.” Türkeri also thanked Sultanbeyli Police Chief Zafer Mete and his team for their support.

Ayşe Duran, a council member from the MHP (Nationalist Movement Party) of Sultanbeyli Municipality who attended the program, stated, “We came to support the solidarity of our women and to protect our children from drug use. We find this project aimed at mothers very valuable. We stand by our children; we support our women. We thank our police officers and headman.”

“Best Narcotic Police; Mother” project

Research and existing findings conducted by the General Directorate of Security (EGM) revealed that the insight and endless love of mothers for their children warrant an emphasis on awareness and educational activities aimed at mothers in the fight against substance abuse. In this context, the “Best Narcotic Police; Mother” project was launched on October 23, 2020. The target audience of the project includes mothers and expectant mothers.

Within the scope of the project, governorships and district governorships are responsible for determining the mothers to be trained, preparing the physical environment for the training, and providing necessary logistical support (budget, vehicles, equipment, preparation of promotional materials, transportation, hospitality, etc.). Mothers who will participate in awareness and training programs are identified by coordinating with municipalities, headmen, public education centers, NGOs, religious officials, and school-parent associations.
