Alanya Alaaddin Keykubat University (ALKÜ) continues to enhance the quality of services provided to its students with the technology and innovations it incorporates. The ALKÜ Prof. Dr. Fuat Sezgin Central Library offers a unique treasure of knowledge with over 52,000 printed books, more than 31,000 electronic books, theses, articles, and a total of 88,161 works. To ensure that disadvantaged students can fully utilize library resources, devices and program additions have been made to expand the facilities. In particular, two programs and two devices have been introduced to facilitate computer usage and document examination for visually impaired individuals.
More accessible than before
In the library, where current technologies are followed for visually impaired students who need more support, it has been ensured that visually impaired users can read documents more comfortably on computers. Specially developed programs, ZoomText and Jaws For Windows, are now available on all computers for visually impaired students. Additionally, to make computer usage easier for visually impaired individuals, Topaz and Pearl devices have been installed on computers. Visually impaired users can also access the “Talking Library” system, a project of the National Library, which includes a large collection of audiobooks, using their Turkish Identity Number and passwords. Moreover, a shortcut has been added to the computers in the Barrier-Free Library Unit, making this service available to disabled users.
