Near East University ranked 6th in the world for educational quality in the “2024 World University Impact Rankings” updated by Times Higher Education (THE). In the category of “Sustainable Cities and Communities,” which ranks universities based on their contributions to the development of arts and cultural heritage, it was recognized as the 8th most effective university in the world.

With the re-evaluation of the results of the “2024 World University Impact Rankings” announced by Times Higher Education in June, Near East University moved up a band among the world’s most effective universities and placed in the 201-300 band. In the updated ranking, Near East University, which is listed among the top 300 most effective universities in the world, was also ranked 4th in Turkey as the most effective university in Northern Cyprus.

The “2024 World University Impact Rankings” published by Times Higher Education, one of the most important ranking organizations in higher education worldwide, evaluates the contributions of world universities to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Near East University ranks 6th in the world for educational quality

Near East University was recognized among the top 10 most effective universities in the world in two categories in the ranking that evaluated universities from 125 countries, and among the top 50 universities in four categories.

Ranking 6th in the world for educational quality, Near East University was also named the 8th most effective university in the world in the “Sustainable Cities and Communities” category, which ranks universities based on their contributions to regional, societal, and global development in arts and cultural heritage. In the “Partnerships for the Goals” category, it ranked 45th, while in the “Gender Equality” category, it was recognized as the 46th most effective university in the world. In the “Health and Well-being” category, it ranked within the top 200 globally.

Prof. Dr. İrfan Suat Günsel, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Near East Organization, expressed pride in Near East University being among the world’s most respected universities, stating, “Our university makes a difference not only in Northern Cyprus and Turkey but also globally with its contributions to sustainable development goals.” Günsel added, “Being among the top 10 most effective universities in the world in the categories of ‘Educational Quality’ and ‘Sustainable Cities and Communities’ has been made possible thanks to the efforts, foresight, and dedication of our students and academics. We are determined to continuously improve our educational quality and move towards building a better world.”

“As Near East University, we will always prioritize quality in education and continue to increase our contributions to sustainable development goals,” Prof. Dr. Günsel stated, thanking all components of Near East University for their efforts in this achievement.

Emphasizing that the results announced by Times Higher Education confirm that Near East University’s academic achievements have created a sustainable impact on a global scale, Near East University Rector Prof. Dr. Tamer Şanlıdağ stated, “The success of our university inspires us to advance our projects aimed at equal opportunities in education and social development even further. I thank our academic staff and students for their contributions to this success.”
