Minister of Culture and Tourism Mehmet Nuri Ersoy stated, “In the 101st year of the Republic, we are timelessly showcasing the splendor of Cappadocia. The Pigeon Valley, stretching from Uchisar to Goreme, will now welcome its guests at night with its historical and natural beauty.”
The long-awaited night lighting works, which the public has been eagerly anticipating in the Pigeon Valley extending from the Uchisar region of Nevsehir to Goreme, were completed on the 101st anniversary of the Republic. From now on, Pigeon Valley will also be able to host its guests at night.
With its historical dovecotes and the Vasıl Stream, Pigeon Valley is one of the most visited valleys in Cappadocia, featuring a 4-kilometer track that attracts great interest from both domestic and foreign tourists. To open the Pigeon Valley to night museology, which is one of the best spots for sunrise and sunset viewing, the Cappadocia Area Presidency has initiated a project. Within the framework of the “Pigeon Valley Environmental Regulation and Lighting Project,” over 100 fairy chimneys, including one large one in the valley, and Pigeon Valley have been illuminated with a total of 340 specially angled LED projectors. The mystical and majestic texture of the region has been highlighted further with colors chosen to fit the texture of Cappadocia.
Using certified photobiological products that do not harm the environment, the necessary infrastructure has been established to obtain all the energy required for lighting from a solar power plant.
While the project aims to increase the number of overnight stays in the region, Culture and Tourism Minister Mehmet Nuri Ersoy, in a statement on his social media account, said, “In the 101st year of the Republic, we are timelessly showcasing the splendor of Cappadocia. The Pigeon Valley, stretching from Uchisar to Goreme, will now welcome its guests at night with its historical and natural beauty. Illuminated as part of our night museology practice with the light of our Republic, the splendor of this unique beauty that has been the subject of legends will always shine without fading away.”
Özay Onur, President of the Nevsehir Guides Chamber, also stated that the work done would increase the overnight rate in the Cappadocia region. Onur said, “Pigeon Valley offers us unique beauty. From now on, our guests coming to the region will have the opportunity to see and explore this beauty at night.”
