After the hunting ban was lifted in Burdur, citizens who went hunting encountered a lynx while driving through the fields. The reactions of the citizens who saw the lynx for the first time were captured on camera.
After the lifting of the hunting ban, hunters also started to hunt on permitted days and in designated areas. Over the weekend, Ali Teke and his friends, who came from Antalya to Burdur, encountered a lynx while moving through the terrain. While in a moving vehicle, Ali Teke and his friends saw the lynx running alongside them and recorded the moment on camera.
In the footage, one of the people in the vehicle commented on the lynx running by, saying, “I think it’s sick,” while another responded, “No way, it’s not sick, it’s a cub, look at it! Should we throw it some bread?” waving at the lynx.
“At first, we thought it was a cat, then we realized it was a lynx.”
Ali Teke, who filmed the encounter, stated that they initially thought the animal was a cat but later realized it was a lynx. He said, “I had never seen a lynx in the wild before. It had a beautiful appearance. It was a lovely moment for us. It was about 100 meters away from us. In that area we were exploring in Burdur, there used to be water, but since there is no water flowing now, the animal may have been thirsty. It seemed like it was looking for water. We threw the bread we had with us to it, and then it moved away from us. At first, we thought it was sick, the animal seemed a bit weak. But then we saw it start to move around. We filmed it while it walked and threw some bread, but we think it probably suffered from thirst.”
“Don’t kill these endangered animals they encounter in nature.”
Ali Teke also warned citizens not to kill these endangered animals they come across in nature, saying, “I encountered a lynx like this for the first time. I had never come across one before. It turns out it’s an endangered species. We were entertained when we saw it, it lifted our spirits. The lives of these animals need to be respected. People want to kill such animals because they think they harm their cats, dogs, or cows. They shouldn’t kill them; these animals should breed and multiply. Our people should be a little more careful. They are really harmless animals, from what we’ve seen.”
