The Speaker of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey, Numan Kurtulmuş, stated, “We will implement the political and economic reforms in Turkey. Hopefully, we will resolve the process of creating a new constitution, which will have no discussions regarding its first four articles, as a democratic matter within a democratic process, and we will establish a Turkey where everyone feels they belong to this country as equal and fair citizens, creating an environment of unity and brotherhood.”

The opening ceremony of Hacettepe University’s 2024-2025 Academic Year was held with the participation of the Speaker of the Grand National Assembly Numan Kurtulmuş and the Minister of Health Kemal Memişoğlu at the university’s Sıhhiye Campus Cultural Center. The ceremony began with a moment of silence and the reading of the National Anthem, followed by a performance by the university’s symphony orchestra. In his opening speech at the ceremony, Minister Memişoğlu noted, “Whenever our civilization has been strong and capable, peace and stability have prevailed in the world, and other nations have also enjoyed the prosperity of this peace. We will work harder and produce more in every field, from philosophy to sociology, from medicine to engineering. While doing this, the public and private university sectors will come together and join hands. Our academies should not be satisfied with being pioneering and secure centers that produce, process, develop, and disseminate knowledge. They must also build the serious foundations that our country needs. We must accept our differences as wealth and work together to produce, and we must stand up hand in hand with this unity and solidarity. This is not only our responsibility for today but also our debt to future generations. We want a health system that produces and conveys knowledge to the world.”

“We will resolve the process of creating a new constitution with no discussions regarding its first four articles through a democratic process.”

TBMM President Numan Kurtulmuş stated that with great intellect and a spirit of unity, Turkey will first ensure its internal peace and integrity. Kurtulmuş remarked that the politics of divide, conquer, and rule will end and that universities will become places where more collaboration and intellect will emerge. He noted that universities are the institutions that can best reveal what is happening in the world, adding, “As 85 million citizens of Turkey, as individuals of the Turkish nation, we will hopefully advance this process together in unity. For this, we will take the necessary steps in Turkey. We will implement political and economic reforms in Turkey. Hopefully, we will resolve the process of creating a new constitution, which will have no discussions regarding its first four articles, as a democratic matter within a democratic process, and we will establish a Turkey where everyone feels they belong to this country as equal and fair citizens, creating an environment of unity and brotherhood. In addition, not only the constitution but also the four fundamental legal texts that ensure the democratic governance of a country; the constitution, the internal regulations of the parliament, the political parties law, and the election system, including the election law, will be made more democratic to ensure that Turkey stands on a firmer ground in these processes.”

“What the centers of discord want to do is to destabilize Turkey and increase insecurity.”

Stating that trust and stability are the two fundamental words that the region needs the most, Kurtulmuş expressed, “I would like to say with gratitude to God that our country, Turkey, is the only country that can remain secure and stable in this geography, where so much turbulence is experienced. If you pay attention, what they want to do through terrorist organizations or certain centers of discord is to destabilize Turkey and increase the atmosphere of insecurity.”

The opening ceremony concluded with the presentation of Hacettepe Awards and the awarding of professorship certificates to faculty members, followed by a photo session.
