In recent years, there has been an increase in anger issues in society, noted Psychologist Dilara Dalyan, stating, “Among the reasons for this increase are the widespread use of social media, societal uncertainties, and economic difficulties. Social media allows individuals to express their immediate emotions, but it can also pave the way for negative interactions. Moreover, major crises such as the pandemic can increase people’s stress levels, intensifying feelings of anger. All these factors contribute to situations where individuals struggle with anger management.”

Psychologist Dilara Dalyan from IAU VM Medical Park Florya Hospital provided explanations regarding anger control. Defining anger control, Psychologist Dalyan said, “Anger control is the ability of individuals to recognize, understand, and appropriately express their feelings of anger. In psychology, anger is an emotional response that typically arises in reaction to threats, frustrations, or losses. However, failure to manage this emotion healthily can lead to harm to both the individual and those around them. Therefore, anger control is an important skill that positively affects personal health and social relationships. Anger control is not limited to behaviors exhibited during anger; it also includes the process of understanding the source of this emotion, recognizing its triggers, and developing strategies to cope with these feelings. At this point, anger management can help individuals enhance their emotional and social skills,” she explained.

“The fast pace of urban life triggers anger outbursts”
Psychologist Dalyan pointed out that anger control is a common issue in society, stating, “Stress factors encountered in daily life, pressures in the workplace, and social interactions can increase individuals’ levels of anger. Additionally, especially the rapid paces and uncertainties brought about by urban life are significant factors that trigger anger outbursts. As a result, anger control issues have begun to be observed more frequently across society.”

“Heart rates may quicken, sweating and trembling may occur”
Psychologist Dalyan stated that anger issues manifest with physical, emotional, and behavioral symptoms, saying, “Physical symptoms include reactions such as increased heart rate, sweating, and trembling. Emotionally, an individual may feel restlessness, helplessness, or irritability. Behaviorally, situations such as yelling, exhibiting aggressive attitudes, and engaging in conflicts are observed. These symptoms can intensify when anger is not kept under control.”

“There is an increase in anger in society”
Psychologist Dalyan remarked that there has been an increase in anger issues in society in recent years, stating, “Among the reasons for this increase are the widespread use of social media, societal uncertainties, and economic difficulties. Social media allows individuals to express their immediate emotions, but it can also pave the way for negative interactions. Additionally, major crises such as the pandemic can increase people’s stress levels, intensifying feelings of anger. All these factors contribute to situations where individuals struggle with anger management.”

“Suggestions for managing anger control”
Psychologist Dalyan mentioned that several fundamental strategies can be implemented to manage anger control, sharing the following information: “First of all, individuals need to recognize their own anger triggers. Knowing in which situations a person feels more anger is an important step in coping with this emotion. Regular exercise, relaxation techniques such as breathing techniques and meditation can have positive effects on anger control. These methods help reduce stress, allowing anger to be managed in a healthier way. To achieve anger control, individuals need to develop effective coping strategies. Enhancing problem-solving skills, developing the ability to empathize, and using positive communication methods are critical in managing anger. When feelings of anger arise, it can be beneficial for individuals to take some time to think and observe their feelings. This helps them avoid immediate reactions.”

“Negatively affects mental health”
Psychologist Dalyan expressed that lack of anger control could be a symptom of many psychological disorders, saying, “For example, conditions such as depression, anxiety disorders, and borderline personality disorder can make it difficult for individuals to manage their feelings of anger. These disorders can negatively affect a person’s mental health, increasing the frequency of anger outbursts. Therefore, anger issues should be taken seriously, and necessary professional help should be sought.”

“Anger control therapy”
Psychologist Dalyan noted that anger control therapy would be shaped according to the individual’s needs, stating, “Individual therapies, group therapies, and behavioral therapies are among the effective methods for anger control. Therapists help individuals develop strategies for coping with anger while also contributing to the enhancement of their emotional intelligence. Seeking professional support assists individuals in developing healthier coping mechanisms and managing anger issues.”

“May be a precursor to stress disorders”
Psychologist Dalyan reminded that frequent anger outbursts are not limited to a single issue but can be a precursor to many psychological diseases, stating, “Various disorders such as depression, stress disorders, bipolar disorder, and antisocial personality disorder can trigger anger outbursts. Therefore, when such symptoms are observed, it is extremely important for individuals to seek help from a professional expert. In conclusion, anger control is a critical issue for both individual mental health and social relationships. Increasing awareness about this issue in society and encouraging professional support is vital for the overall health of both individuals and society. Anger, when managed correctly, can become an empowering emotion; otherwise, it can lead to destructive outcomes. Therefore, education and awareness-raising activities on anger management should be addressed as part of modern life.”
