In Keçiören, where streets and squares were adorned with Turkish flags to celebrate Republic Day, a wreath-laying ceremony was held at the Atatürk Monument as part of the celebrations for the 101st anniversary of Republic Day on October 29. After a moment of silence and the reading of the National Anthem at Kalaba City Square, the ceremony began with respect shown to Gazi Mustafa Kemal Atatürk and his comrades in arms, as well as all the heroes of the Republic. The wreath-laying ceremony was attended by CHP Ankara Deputy Semra Dinçer, Keçiören Mayor Dr. Mesut Özarslan, CHP Keçiören District President Berk Kılıç, representatives of political parties and civil society organizations, muhtars, and many citizens.
“The Republic is a struggle for existence”
CHP Ankara Deputy Semra Dinçer, in her speech, stated, “Today we celebrate the 101st birthday of our Republic Day. On May 19, 1919, with great determination, the Great Leader Mustafa Kemal Atatürk landed in Samsun, and while fighting for independence, much blood was shed in this country. If our star and crescent flag is waving today, we owe it to our esteemed martyrs, especially the Great Leader Atatürk, and to everyone who fought in the War of Independence, regardless of gender or age. The Republic is a struggle for existence, and we will also be in the struggle to continue this existence. Long live the Republic, long live democracy, long live our Republic Day!”
“We are working with all our strength to protect and advance our Republic”
Emphasizing the importance of the Republic, Keçiören Mayor Dr. Mesut Özarslan said, “We are together in our Keçiören, which was the first headquarters of our War of Independence, to celebrate the 101st anniversary of the proclamation of our Republic. The torch of independence lit under the leadership of the founder of our Republic, Gazi Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, and his heroic comrades continues to burn today with the same faith and determination. The Republic is not only a form of government but also the will to uphold our nation’s freedom, rights, and law. Our ancestors, who resisted all kinds of difficulties during the years of the War of Independence, made these lands a homeland with a spirit of national unity and solidarity. That determination continues to guide us today, illuminating our path with the ambition to build a strong Turkey in Keçiören, Ankara, and across Turkey. We are working with all our strength to protect and advance the Republic entrusted to us, and we will continue to do so. We commemorate our martyrs, especially Gazi Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, with mercy and gratitude, and once again proclaim our belief that we will keep our Republic alive forever in unity and solidarity. Happy Republic Day! How fortunate is the one who says ‘I am a Turk!'”
