In Sivas, the 101st anniversary of October 29th Republic Day was celebrated with various events. As part of the activities, a celebration program was organized in front of the Atatürk Congress Museum. The program began with Governor Yılmaz Şimşek and the Commander of the 5th Infantry Training Brigade, Infantry Colonel Cüneyt Mutlu, congratulating the public from the ceremony vehicle. The program continued with a moment of silence and the reading of the National Anthem. After the reading of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan’s message for October 29th Republic Day, Governor Yılmaz Şimşek gave a speech.

“The place of our Sivas is very significant”

Governor Şimşek, wishing a happy 101st anniversary, stated, “Today, we proudly celebrate the 101st anniversary of our Republic, founded under the leadership of our esteemed nation’s Gazi Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, in Sivas, where the foundations of the Republic were laid. Today marks a moment when, 101 years ago, after our War of Independence, the Turkish Nation was reborn from its ashes and a new page was opened in Turkish history. October 29th is not just a date; it is a turning point for our Nation. The significance of Sivas in the establishment of our Republic is immense. The Sivas Congress demonstrated that our nation needed to act together as one heart and guided us on this path,” he said.

After the speech, awards were given to students who ranked in the inter-school competitions in painting, poetry, and composition held throughout the province. Following the reading of a poem by the student who won first place in poetry, a performance was presented by the Public Order Commando Company of the Provincial Gendarmerie Command. The program, which also featured a folk dance team, concluded after the ceremonial parade.
