In Kütahya, physiotherapist Nur Özkalay stated that posture disorders are a common problem in society. Özkalay emphasized that especially school-aged children frequently encounter these issues, pointing out that working continuously at a desk and carrying heavy bags lead to posture disorders in children. She mentioned that this situation begins in childhood and continues as postural disorders in later ages.
Özkalay said, “If these issues are not corrected, serious problems such as a flattened back may arise in later ages.”
She highlighted that posture disorders can lead to conditions such as kyphosis, lordosis, and scoliosis, but these conditions are treatable. Özkalay expressed that early diagnosis and intervention contribute to achieving better results.
She noted that in scoliosis, if intervention is made before the angle increases, an effective treatment process can be initiated for children and adolescents. Özkalay stated, “Early diagnosis and treatment improve the quality of life. As pain can gradually increase over time, the establishment of bone structure in later ages makes it more difficult to change certain issues. Therefore, early diagnosis can be life-saving.”
For individuals working at a desk, Özkalay indicated that working hours should not exceed 7 hours, advising, “For example, after working at a desk for 1 hour, it is recommended to take a 10-minute walk.”
She also emphasized the importance of using an orthopedic chair, placing a riser under the computer screen, and maintaining the neck angle. Özkalay added that various exercises would also be beneficial in preventing posture disorders.
