General Surgery Specialist Dr. Gülberk Uslu, who draws attention to breast cancer, stated, “With breast screening programs, we have a chance for early diagnosis. Early diagnosis increases the patient’s life expectancy and quality, providing us with opportunities to avoid more challenging treatments.”
In a statement made within the scope of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Tunceli State Hospital General Surgery Specialist Dr. Gülberk Uslu emphasized the extreme importance of early diagnosis in breast cancer. He pointed out that breast cancer is a significant health issue, affecting approximately 2.3 million women annually and constituting a quarter of newly diagnosed cancer cases among women. Dr. Uslu said, “We have a chance for early diagnosis with breast screening programs. Early diagnosis increases the patient’s life expectancy and quality, providing us with opportunities to avoid more challenging treatments. In this context, early diagnosis is extremely important in breast cancer.”
Dr. Uslu mentioned that in the breast cancer screening program, in addition to self-breast examinations, there are two additional steps. He stated, “The second step involves a breast examination to be conducted annually by a general surgery specialist and a breast ultrasound to be performed by a radiology specialist. The third step is a mammogram to be taken every two years.”
Reminding that there is education about breast cancer at KETEMs located in healthy life centers, Dr. Uslu said, “In addition to the information provided, you can also have your screenings done free of charge at these centers. Remember, early diagnosis saves lives. Early diagnosis in breast cancer increases life expectancy and quality.”
