On the occasion of October 29th World Stroke Day, the Erzincan Provincial Health Directorate shared important information about stroke risk factors and prevention methods. In the statement made, it was emphasized that unhealthy eating, insufficient physical activity, and the use of tobacco and alcohol increase the risk of stroke.

The Erzincan Provincial Health Directorate made an important statement on the occasion of October 29th World Stroke Day. In the statement, it was mentioned that risk factors such as unhealthy eating, insufficient physical activity, and the use of tobacco and alcohol are effective in the formation of strokes.

“1 in 4 people is at risk of stroke”

In the statement, it is predicted that 1 in 4 people over the age of 25 worldwide will experience a stroke at some point in their life, with approximately 12 million people diagnosed with stroke for the first time each year, and 7 million people dying from stroke annually.

“Stroke is a preventable disease”

Stroke occurs due to the blockage or bleeding of blood vessels in the brain, leading to a disruption or reduction of blood flow to the brain, and it is a significant cause of disability and death worldwide. Scientists emphasized that individuals should adopt healthy lifestyle habits to reduce the risk of stroke.

“Lifestyle changes in the fight against chronic diseases”

It was stated that risk factors such as unhealthy eating, insufficient physical activity, and the use of tobacco and alcohol trigger conditions like high blood pressure, high blood sugar, and obesity. Research shows that small changes in lifestyle can prevent strokes by up to 90%.

“Disease Management Platform (HYP) application”

The ministry has developed the Disease Management Platform (HYP) application to encourage primary healthcare providers, especially family physicians, to take a more active role in the early diagnosis and treatment of chronic diseases. In this context, family physicians evaluate individuals for hypertension and obesity, and for diabetes and cardiovascular diseases in individuals over 40.

“Take a step for a healthy life”

The Erzincan Provincial Health Directorate emphasized that everyone should regularly visit their registered family physicians and undergo periodic screenings and monitoring for chronic diseases. At the end of the statement, recommendations for a healthy life were listed:

Eat healthily!

Be active!

Avoid tobacco and alcohol!

Consult your family physician!

Get your screenings and monitoring done!
