Furkan Yiğit, a third-year student of Computer Engineering at Kayseri University (KAYÜ), aims to facilitate the pregnancy process for expectant mothers with the help of artificial intelligence through a project developed with his teammates.

Furkan Yiğit, a third-year student of Computer Engineering at KAYÜ and also a Huawei Campus Representative, participated in the AR-GE Coding Marathon to be held nationwide after receiving certificates for his success in the trainings provided by the company. The team, which started working with teammates matched from other provinces, developed a project named Pregnant, Mother, and Child Support Assistant. This application allows expectant mothers, especially those in rural areas, to connect with a chatbot for 24 hours to gain guidance without going to a doctor. The application will be further developed with updates to also provide guidance to prospective fathers in its advanced stages.

Furkan Yiğit stated that they want to offer the application for free in Turkey, saying, “I am a campus ambassador for Huawei. The idea for this project emerged as follows: we were initially given a random topic. Then we combined two subtopics of this topic to come up with this idea. We developed this idea by combining maternal mortality and infant mortality. The purpose of our project, named Pregnant, Mother and Child Support Assistant, is to provide reliable health services, especially for mothers in rural areas, through a 24-hour support chatbot for pregnant women. Our reliable datasets here are based on data sets we obtained from the Ministry of Health, allowing users to ask questions in any way they want at any time. They can get feedback. It actually serves as a preliminary guide before going to the doctor. In necessary situations, it can also direct them to a doctor. We continue to develop the application. If supported, there will also be a father assistant as an extra feature, which can inform fathers about what they need to do when pregnant women or mothers need physical or emotional support. Our goal in the future is for this platform to be free in Turkey first. We will offer it for free. We plan to promote it by collaborating with the Ministries of Health, necessary hospitals, and relevant platforms to spread it throughout Turkey,” he said.

Associate Professor Dr. Murat Taşyürek, Head of the Computer Engineering Department and Director of the Information Technologies Vocational School at KAYÜ, stated, “I have previously worked in the private sector, in public institutions, and have actively participated in many software development projects. Computer engineering is a constantly evolving, changing, and updating profession, and there is almost no software today that lacks artificial intelligence. We encourage our students to participate in competitions that involve artificial intelligence projects, especially in projects like TUBITAK and TEKNOFEST. Furkan is a student whom we greatly appreciate for his development and take pride in his proficiency in information technology, and his success in this project actually demonstrates how effective our educational system is. In the educational system of computer engineering, we aim to develop a curriculum that is not only theory-focused but also application-oriented. There is a saying in computer engineering: We teach you how to learn. Our goal is for students to possess the skills to immediately adopt new technologies as technology is constantly changing. This way, they can quickly adapt to newly emerging technologies. Furkan is the best example of this, and we are proud of him.”
